RAINFOREST

This was the first project that involved with a real client as compared to our previous, a renovation project to redesign the building of Darul Ihsan Orphanage, the students were required to come up with new programmes and spaces to accommodate for the users of the orphanage.

Darul Ihsan Orphanages make part of the Muslim Trust Fund Association, funded in 1904 by a group of gentlemen who aimed to support poor and underprivileged Muslims children. Since then, the association has helped many people from all ages by providing financial aid, educational awards and free burial services, among others.

For this project, I wanted to create a natural environment for the residents that feels like a second home, where they can create new memories and form special relationships with one another and the staff as they grow and adapt for the future.

The spaces will encourage communication between the residents and staff, creating interactions within the community circle.

During this project, I have explored a more abstract form for the entire project, through the use of a physical model it had helped allow me to explore more freely to create an interesting space. I have also developed the skills to design with the thought of client in mind throughout the entire process and to be more sensible and considerate while doing so.
